There’s always been a certain number of judgements on Priscilla Chan-Zuckerberg’s wife. Priscilla Chan, who grew up in Boston with her Chinese-Vietnamese refugee parents, has come in for a fair amount of ethnicity-specific judgment.

Some Americans complained, with a mixture of envy and admiration, that Chan’s academic and marital achievements make her “every Tiger Mom’s dream child.”

On the flipside, she has not been well-received by many internet users in China, one of whom described her as a “dark, ugly dwarf” who wed the “tall, rich, handsome man.” Another Chinese critic said: “I really do not understand foreigners’ aesthetic standards when it comes to Chinese girls.”。

It seems like that many people want to fit her into a neat box of what a billionaire’s wife might look and act like- good looking, elegant and poised and in a word, a trophy wife.

The term “trophy wife” is often used in a derogatory sense to describe any married woman who’s young, attractive, who has expensive taste, and who’s married to a rich (and possibly older) man.。

However, Chan’s behavior hasn’t been encouraging for that faction. Instead of being a trophy wife, she is the kind of wife who wins the trophies for herself and her husband.

According to a The New York Times report, people recounted an incident in which Chan and her friend were shopping, and she picked up a pair of $600 shoes. “You should get them, you have the money,” said her friend, to which Chan reportedly replied, “It’s not my money.”。

The Harvard and medical school grad is doing her own thing, and it does not include expensive consumptions. After Chan graduated from Harvard, she went on to teach 4th and 5th grade science at the Harker School in California, before enrolling in medical school. After medical school, she completed her pediatric residency at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center. After that, she went on to practice as a pediatrician. She also co-founded the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, also known as CZI, with her husband.
